Mareeba Cattle Market

Location: Mareeba
Yarding: 167

Ians Sale Sale Report - 23th April 2024

This week agents yarded a total of 167 head in Mareeba.

The quality of the yarding in the heavy weight range was very good, with some very good quality covered cows suitable to kill.

The store market however, had limited numbers of quality cattle, making it difficult to quote rates on these categories.

Good quality fat cows made 217cents/kg, going to the local butcher trade. Cows with slightly less condition made 200cents/kg while some good quality store cows made approximately 180cents/kg.

These are similar prices to what we've seen in the last few weeks.

There were some very good quality Droughtmaster steers on offer, these made 248cents/kg.

These saw good competition from both meat works & live export buyers. Heavy bulls went to a top of ~215cents/kg.

As the weather starts to ease and the country dries out, we expect to see a lot more cattle at the weekly sales over the coming weeks.

We also expect to see good competition from across the buyer panel as there is plenty of live export orders out, and our meat works buyers have confirmed they will be regularly attending Mareeba sales again going forward.
