‘Elrose’ hits the market

The name Elrose is synonymous with Brahman cattle.

Current owners, Rodger and Lorena Jefferis and family and their herd of cattle and operation are widely recognised as industry leaders in the Northern Australian beef sector.

Founded in the late 1950’s the Elrose prefix is the largest totally performance recorded (Breedplan) Brahman Stud in Australia. The herd has been so closely monitored over the decades that it now carries a 4.5 star rating for Herd Completeness of Performance Rating with Breedplan.

Over the years the Jefferis family has been unrelenting in their pursuit to improve their cattle through careful and rigid selection with a combination of the best available genetic material, statistical data and recording, testing and evaluation.

These methods have resulted in a globally recognised operation, with a clientele stretching across Australia and overseas destinations such as Brazil, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.

The family have chosen wisely and judiciously with their seedstock acquisitions, setting records and bench marks in the Australian seedstock arena. Rodger’s confidence in the Brahman breed and their future within the beef industry has seen the operation thrust to the forefront of stud cattle industry on numerous occasions.

At the 1998 annual Tartrus Lancefield Sale they outlaid $60,000 for Lancefield Ambition. Progeny records indicate sales in excess of $700,000 were generated from that initial investment. In 2001 they purchased Lancefield Signature 9153 (ET) for $87,500 again at the Tartrus Lancefield Sale.

In one day (2005 Elrose Sale) Signature’s sons auction totals amassed a figure of over $320,000 in revenue.

These two bulls have over 1000 registered progeny between them.

In 2006 the couple were the losing bidders on the then record priced all breeds selling bull, Lancefield Burton Manso 3251 (ET) at $300,000. One year later they outlaid $240,000 purchasing Lancefield M Billionaire Manso 1377 (ET) again at the Tartrus Lancefield Sale. Due to an unfortunate accident, Billionaire Manso did not realise his full potential. He has however been used extensively throughout the herd through retained progeny.

In 2017 the stud rocketed to global attention when they created history and set an Australian Brahman breed and beef cattle record auction price paying $325,000 for NCC Justified at the Annual NCC Brahman Sale. Since his purchase, the record breaker has been utilised heavily within the Elrose herd and has also been heavily marketed overseas.

With so many prominent bulls purchased both at auction and privately, the resident herd at Elrose is second to none in quality, consistency and data performance.

Included in the sale are 2000 registered grey Brahman females, along with leading, resident sires plus some commercial cattle if the purchaser so requires.

Elrose provides a perfect combination of high grade, purebred Brahman genetics in an existing operation that is able to support and retain some backgrounding capabilities at same time.

The property’s ideal location lends itself to a ready access with breeding operations in the Northern Territory, central Australia and all areas of Queensland.

Commenting on the historic listing of the property, Rodger Jefferis added, “My grandfather drew the original block, in successive generations we as a family have developed this property and it’s herd of cattle into a well-known, highly productive enterprise.

Through constant improvements in all sectors and continually embracing current technologies, husbandry techniques, pasture and seedstock improvements and selection, we’re proud to offer this property.

Elrose offers a unique opportunity, a once in a lifetime chance to acquire a profitable entity without any additional outlays.'

Marketing agent, Troy Trevor, Queensland Rural added to Rodger’s comments by saying, “Properties and cattle of this calibre rarely become available on the open market.

Elrose is an iconic address, its reputation within the beef industry is second to none, its location to the major arterial beef networks to northern Australia is a huge positive.

There’s little or no waste country on Elrose, it’s a highly productive unit in an industry that’s dynamic, strong and with a terrific future.’
