Lyndhurst also has two Better Than Ready August born yearlings out of Sequalo mares catalogued as Lot 142, a colt, from Flawless Curves, a sister to Holding (10 wins, Listed Flemington) and lot 393, a filly from Ultimate Rush, a winning sister to Burdekin Blues (11 wins, STC Expressway-G2, BRC George Moore).
Sequalo, a former high class sprinter who was a top sire in the Lyndhurst stallion yards for many years was renowned for the toughness and durability of his stock and for leaving a legacy in one of the most spectacular Queensland sires.
Bred and standing at the McAlpine’s Eureka Stud, Cambooya, Qld, he is Spirit of Boom, a national racing star who won nine races and earned seven G1 first three cheques, wins in the Doomben 10,000, MVRC William Reid, seconds in the VRC Newmarket, MRC Oakleigh Plate and at Doomben the BTC Cup and thirds in the Perth Winterbottom and another renewal of the Oakleigh Plate.
Put to stud a year earlier than Better Than Ready, Spirit of Boom got off to a huge start as a sire, supplying among 18 first crop 2yo winners five successful in stakes. He finished second to Zoustar on earnings on both the first and second season’s sires’ list, but on both occasions was headed him by money. He has been Queensland’s Champion Sire 2018-19 and 2019-20 and is fancied to make it three years in succession.
A handsome, near black first class sprinter, Sequalo served Queensland as a first class sire for many years. His greatest legacy is the McAlpine, Eureka Stud, Cambooya Qld bred, raced and stood Spirit of Boom.
He was a leading Australian sprinter, tough and sound typical of the Sequalo progeny, in earning in excess of $2million recording nine wins. Seven G1 efforts were victories in the Doomben 10,000 and Moonee Valley William Reid, seconds in the VRC Newmarket, MRC Oakleigh Plate and BTC Cup and thirds in the Winterbottom at Perth and another crack at the Oakleigjh Plate.
As a sire, Spirit of Boom got off to a sensational start with hist first crop 2yos in 2017-18, claiming the first season sire title numerically with18 winners of 38 races, second on earnings to Zoustar and then runner up to him for the two crop title in 2018-19, a year he gained the first of two successive Champion Queensland sire titles and finished high up on the national sire’s list with 96 winners, 5 SWs, of over $6.1million. He was also champion Queensland juvenile sire again with 15 winners and continues to make a big impression as a top sire,
To date he has supplied 175 winners, 12 first two crop stakes winners, including two milllionaires, over 400 races won and $19milllion earned. Yearlings have sold up to $500,000.
His biggest source of 2021 sale yearlings is the Gold March Sale, one for which he has 35 lots catalogued including 17 on account of Eureka Stud.
The whole collection is an advertisement for the upgrading of his broodmares since he lived up to his name and boomed as a top sire with his first crop. His March sale yearlings includes offspring of mares by Choisir, Anabaa (USA), Starspangledbanner, Flying Spur, Snitzel, Street Cry (Ire), More Than Ready (USA), Not a Single Doubt, General Nediym, Northern Meteor, Spectrum (GB), Lonhro, Encosta de Lago, Stratum, Canny Lad and Pins.

Other proven Queensland sires with good representation in the catalogue are Spill the Beans (15), Whitttington (14), Sidestep (13), Power (12) and Under the Louvre (12).
Two significant sires with first crop yearlings are Heroic Valour (32 lots), a resident at one of Queensland’s most respected studs, the Basil Nolan family’s Raheen, and The Mission (11 lots). The latter, a son of Choiisir and a Redoute’s Choice winner is an Aquis Farm sire who was Co-champion 2yo colt in Australia in 2016-17, a year he won the G1 Champagne Stakes.
Heroic Valour has a big opportunity to be another successful sire for Raheen. A half-brother to first class miler Triple Honour, he is a Fastnet Rock product who did his racing in New Zealand, winning four races in succession including three stakes, the ARC Diamond Stakes-G1, Matamatta Slipper-L and Whangarei Northland Breeders Stakes-L. He third placed in the New Zealand Two Thousand Guineas-G1 and Hawkes Bay Guineas-G2.
