Brisbane winter carnival, the filly Shadow Lawn

An Eye Catching juvenile

Rothesay Doomben double best achievement by new sire

An Eye Catching juvenile double on April 22 at Doomben by first crop runners by the Glenlogan Stud, Innisplain Valley, Qld located Fastnet Rock Queensland Guineas and Brisbane Lord Mayor's Cup winner Rothesay challenges as the best achievement by a first crop sire in 2014-15.
It not so much the double, although it is rare for a sire to perform the feat in the age group at the one meeting, but more the manner in which they accomplished their wins, successes by big margins in successive 12-runner races.
Making her debut, the first of the winners, the Barry Baldwin trained filly Shadow Lawn, spreadeagled the field in scoring by seven lengths, while, the second winner, the Rex Lipp conditioned colt In His Stride, had to be satisfied with a four lengths margin.
Earlier placed at Doomben (twice) and Toowoomba and again at the latter track on Saturday, finishing second in the $100,000 Dalrello Stakes, In His Stride races for six owners, including his breeders' family members. Bred by R. Boucher and T.J. and Mrs D.E. Fraser, he is from In Her Shoes, a non-money earning three-quarter sister by Sequalo to Star Shiraz, a winner of the QTC Sires' Produce Stakes and second in the QTC TJ Smith Classic and STC Coolmore Classic. In His Stride's grandam, Can She Can Can, was by St Covet, a sire who was a big loss when he died at Glenlogan after only three seasons of use.
Looking every centimeter a good prospect for juvenile stakes at the Brisbane winter carnival, the filly Shadow Lawn was bred by S J E Family Trust. She is a half-sister to the Show a Heart Brisbane winner Glendara (second Toowoomba on Saturday) and is the second named foal from Art Gallery, an unplaced mare by the Last Tycoon sire Marju (Ire) and from Chamoix, a Morphettville Guineas winner by Zabeel.
The spectacular wins by the Rothesay progeny In His Stride and Shadow Lawn indicates that Glenlogan principal Jon Hasler and stud manager Steve Morley have made another wise choice in their selection of an Australian stakes performer for their sire roster.
Produced by Schiaparelli, a Woodman (USA) winner from Canny Lad's Group1 winning sister Canny Lass, Rothesay is a horse who had the speed to win at 1100m and 1200m at Rosehill Gardens but who was at his best a 1600m. Like his sire Fastnet Rock, an outstanding Australian 3-year-old sprinter by Danehill used by Coolmore in the Hunter Valley and Ireland, Rothesay looks a good prospect to do well with a his older runners.
He is one of three sons of Fastnet Rock, himself the current leading Australian sire, who are in the top ten by earnings on the 2014-15 First Season Sires' List. The other two are Hinchinbrook (Yarraman Park, Scone NSW) and Stryker (Three Bridges, Eddington, Vic).
The infant Fastnet Rock sire dynasty is predicted to get a huge boost in 2015-16 through not only the 3-year-olds by these sires, but also through first crop 2-year-olds by Hunter Valley located Foxwedge (Newgate Farm) and Smart Missile (Arrowfield). Both have started off with big books of quality mares.
