Devastation Of Roads in FNQ

TC Jasper disaster assistance extended

Roads in FNQ
Cairns is now an island in Far North Queensland, with roads blocked to the north, south and west as it endures the worst flooding in more than 100 years.

The region's mayors are calling for military intervention, warning that emergency services are becoming exhausted and overwhelmed, with limited access to outlying areas.

Major roads had been cut off

The Queensland Reconstruction Authority has begun to assess damage after state-federal disaster assistance was announced.

TC Jasper disaster assistance extended to more FNQ communities

Disaster assistance for Tropical Cyclone Jasper has now been extended to more areas, to help residents and local Councils cover response and reconstruction costs.

The Federal and Queensland Governments have activated further support under jointly funded Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Residents of Yarrabah can also apply for the Personal Hardship Assistance grants of $180 for individuals and up to $900 for a family of five or more, available to cover the costs of essentials like food, clothing and medicine.

The councils of Mareeba, Tablelands and Yarrabah can also now access funding for counter disaster operations and the reconstruction of essential public assets such as roads, bridges and floodways.

The parts of Cook shire eligible for assistance are Shipton Flat, Rossville, Ayton, Bloomfield, Laura, Lakeland, Oaky Creek, Helenvale, Mount Amos, and defined areas of Cooktown.

Anyone requiring personal hardship payments or other immediate assistance can contact the Queensland Community Recovery Hotline on 1800 173 349.
