 The 2nd Emerald feature sale for 2020 broke all the records when agents offered close enough to 6400 head, up 500 head from the June sale.

Whilst there was a good support from all local districts there was several consignments of feeder and weaner weights from northern and coastal regions.

The quality for the most part was solid, however the overall presentation and polish fell in line with the drier winter conditions & was slightly below the standard set at the previous sale.

Weaner steers and heifers between 200/280kg produced most of the increased numbers making up close to 50% of the entire yarding, whilst genuine feeder numbers eased as did the quality.

The feedlot industry was well represented, veal and yearling processors were once again very active. There was a full field of store/restocker buyers, notably there were more purchases staying within central Qld regions with less of a southern influence.

This did little to effect the market, buyers showed a lot of confidence in the current Aussie beef industry & for the most part the market was strong for all classes of cattle heading back to the paddock. With that said, most weight ranges realised falls of 7 to 14 cents, when compared to the previous feature sale.

However this was a combination of buyers being more selective and a greater mix in quality, the better lines of weaners sold mostly fully firm, with many vendors returning averages similar to or in some cases better than the previous result.

The Whitehead family “Satellite” Springsure sold Charolais cross weaner steers to 466c and weighed 234kg to return $1093, while their heifer portion made to 387c weighing 226kg or $876.

Lyn Sypher “West Park” Emerald sold Droughtmaster steers to 400c that weighed 288kg and return $1155.

Gavin and Julie Vallis “JoJo” Alpha sold Braford cross steers to 378c weighing 405kg or $1532.

Ian Mylrea “Coorabelle” Springsure consigned Santa steers for 420c weighing 226kg to return $953.

The Bettridge family “Mt Wilga” Alpha sold Droughtmaster steers to 375c weighing 375kg to return $1407.

Brian and Chyanne Louden “Karinda” Springsure sold Charbray cross heifers making to 352c weighing 338kg to return $1190.

Scott & Kimberley Schoo, Capella sold Santa X Weaner Steers for 440c weighing 254kg to return $1120. Their sisters made 382c weighing 245kg or $936.

Will & Danni Anne Hogan, Springsure sold Euro X Weaner Steers for 436c weighing 235kg or $1025. Their Heifer mates made 381c weighing 241kg or $919.

Lawrie and Hastings Hawkins, Serpentine, Springsure sold no. 9 D/Master Feeder Steers for 374c weighing 374kg or $1400.

Gray Partnership, Alpha sold Santa Steers for 405c weighing 34 kg or $1378.
