Hughenden Show 2022
A quality line-up of stud, commercial and prime cattle were presented for exhibition at the 139th Annual Hughenden Show on the 27th and 28th May.
Renowned cattleman Luke Carrington from Rondel Droughtmasters had the difficult task of judging the stud and commercial breeder sections. This year saw entries of approximately 40 stud cattle from three exhibitors, and approximately 25 commercial cattle from five local exhibitors.
The quality of cattle on show was exceptional, with first time exhibitors Triple E Brahmans taking out the Most Successful Stud exhibitor, Grand Champion Bull and Helen Wallace Grand Champion Female. They also won the single bull under 24mo, Pen of Three Bulls under 24 months and Single Heifer under 12mo.
Telemon Droughtmasters females placed first in the Cow and Calf, Pen of Two Cows and Calves, Pen of Three Heifers under 12mo, and Reserve Champion Female. First time exhibitors Markeen Droughtmasters also had some high calibre cows and calves on display at the show.
The Coleman Stockfeeds Commercial Cattle Section saw A-grade standards of commercial bulls and heifers entered. Local breeder and butchers, Stuart and Stacey Christensen of Mt Beckford, won the Grand Champion Herd Bull, the Champion Commercial Female, and the Most Successful Commercial Exhibitor.
The Christensen family also won the highly contested pen of 3 replacement heifers, with a trophy donated by Hughenden Show stalwarts Bill and Lesley Bode. A high calibre of heifers were also entered by Ashley & Chelsea Smith, Bill & Lesley Bode, Kirby Smith & Tammy McClymont.
The Prime Section was judged by Andrew Carcary from JBS in Townsville. A-grade finished cattle were on display for judging from local producers Kirby Smith, the Bode Family, Tim McNamara and Stuart Christensen.
The Hughenden Show provides a great platform to showcase the stellar genetics produced in the region, and plans are in place to develop the event further for 2023.
