A rocky road to be the Mayor in your Council
To wear the mayoral robe has just got tougher it’s been a rocky road and in some cases a nasty and spiteful fight to the top job.
The Robe.
The regalia is not meant to glorify the Mayor who receives it, but rather signify the respect and honour of the people whom they serve.
The wearing of the robes and the chain ensure the functions of office, both business and ceremony, are conducted with dignity, credit to the Council, and honour to the community.
When being “installed” as Mayor, the recipient is told the robe and chain are an outward visible sign of the distinction.
A record 1,787 candidates are fighting for a seat in the top job in the town 76 councils across Queensland and out of that we have 15 retiring mayors hanging up there boots.
