Crash landing
A follow up story about my blog on the Omaka Air Show story I posted on the 3rd of April, about 1 hour after we left the air show a plane had a crash landing see attached newspaper article, a good friend of mine let’s call him “Beach Whale” said to me by phone on the day of the air show, ‘you won’t get me at one of those shows because there is always a crash’, Nostradamus is alive and well and living in Beaudesert, thanks Terry.
Thankfully no one was injured, pilot walked away.
It’s true you have to be in the right place at the right time, while traveling in New Zealand on an Agricultural tour we were at Picton (South Island) on Good Friday, after touring the Marlborough Wine Valley the previous day we heard that the famous Omaka Air Show was being held over the Easter weekend.
We headed off to the show on Good Friday and started with a tour of the world famous “Knights of the Sky’ exhibition, Prince William and Kate visited it on their recent tour of New Zealand and Australia, this is the work of the famous film director Sir Peter Jackson of Lord of the Rings fame.
The exhibition was so life like due to all of Sir Peter’s film crew working on it, it gave a real insight to that period of the war it really is a must see if you are in the area.
The Omaka Air Show is held every two years it was surprising to know that a majority of the crowd had travelled from different parts of the world all retired pilots and war veterans who all said this is one of the best air shows in the world.
I also ran into a retired RFDS pilot and his wife who was is nurse on the plane they have been married 44 years, he worked in the Kimberley’s can you believe that we has such a good talk that we forgot to exchange names but it felt as if I had known him for years so if anyone out there knows him could let me know his name.
In two years’ time wouldn’t it be great to get a tour together to visit the Marlborough Wine District and take in the air show and for all of you out there don’t think it’s all sheep, New Zealand has a diverse agricultural industry.
